New family physicians are awarded a bonus for each new patient he/she takes from the provincial unattached patient registration site, Health Care Connect. This bonus ranges from $100 to $180 per patient, though it is significantly higher at $350 for complex/vulnerable patients.
All new family physicians are eligible for the Income Stabilization Program with compensation at the rate of $174,000/annum for the first year or until such time as their billings based on patient visits exceed this minimum, typically after six months or so of full time practice.
New family physicians setting up full-time practice in Shelburne are also eligible for the Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative, which offers taxable financial incentives. Additionally, new family physicians in Shelburne may be eligible for the Canada Student Loans forgiveness program.
