Recreationally, Dufferin County is blessed with a countryside of rolling hills and forests, rivers and lakes, which offer many opportunities for a wide range of outdoor adventure experiences. The area abounds in hiking and cross country ski trails. In the winter, snowmobilers enjoy the local country side, and downhill skiers have the option of local skiing in the Hockley Valley and at Caledon Ski Club, or skiing at Collingwood, a short hour's drive away. Island Lake, which falls within Orangeville's town limits, is the home of a competitive rowing club, and offers opportunities for paddling, sailing, windsurfing, and fishing (both summer and winter).
